YTU Center for Applied Research and Training in Tourism Area Management

The Center’s mission is to organize various short- and long-term educational and training programs in all areas where the University provides education and conducts research on tourism area management, to determine strategies regarding the impact of new technologies on the country’s tourism policies, as well as strategies for financing, operations, promotion, marketing, and international relations; and to develop various research and consulting projects on economic, political, administrative, social, demographic, architectural, technical, and artistic issues related to design, planning, infrastructure, investment, environmental decisions—ranging from the scale of a single building to the country’s regional planning. 

YTÜ Center for Applied Research in Settlement and Architectural Sciences

The Center’s founding purpose is to conduct planning for all types of buildings and settlements—ranging from the single-building scale to urban and regional scales—as well as to carry out research, application, and education on economic, political, administrative, social, demographic, physical, architectural, technical, and artistic issues related to these scales. 

YTÜ International Urban Studies Research Center (ICUS)

To conduct joint projects and foster collaboration with universities and urban institutions internationally—including in Turkish-speaking countries that share national and common cultural characteristics—

To initiate efforts to develop educational programs based on real-world projects in the fields of architecture, urban planning, engineering, and other applied and social sciences related to cities,

To enhance knowledge and experience through research programs and disseminate them to relevant institutions,

To contribute to strengthening our country’s scientific infrastructure by leveraging the existing knowledge and experience at our university and other domestic and international academic institutions,

To produce public services aimed at national and international collaboration by bringing together different disciplines around urban-related fields of study. 

YTÜ Center for the Preservation of Historical Heritage: Application and Research

The Center’s mission is to organize various short- and long-term education and training programs in all areas where the university provides education and conducts research on the preservation of historical heritage; to develop various research and consulting projects; and to establish strategies for preservation practices. By organizing research, studies, and events that facilitate the sharing of technical knowledge across scientific disciplines, the Center works to raise awareness of historical heritage preservation and contributes to the development of the university’s cooperation with public and private sectors as well as international organizations.

YTÜ Istanbul Historic Peninsula Application and Research Center

The overall objective of the Istanbul Historic Peninsula Application and Research Center is to preserve the cultural heritage of the Historic Peninsula—which has carried diverse cultural treasures to the present day and has always attracted attention with its unique beauty—by contributing to the cultural legacy it has carried from the past to the present, and to pass this heritage on to future generations. Based on this general objective, the Center aims to: establish a framework for the protection of World Heritage sites; preserve and strengthen the architecture, archaeology, landscape, natural resources, and urban fabric of the Historic Peninsula; preserving the area’s outstanding universal value, ensuring it is understood by the public, and passing it on to future generations, Encouraging the use of the area as an educational resource, and Protecting and supporting the area without compromising its own cultural, social, and economic vitality, have been identified as specific objectives for the preparation of the Istanbul Historic Peninsula Management Plan.

The principles of the Historic Peninsula include: recognizing that cultural assets are an integral part of the natural environment, the built environment, and the social, economic, and cultural environment created by humans; protecting the architectural heritage; protecting the natural heritage and coastal life; protecting the cultural heritage (social, economic, artistic, historical, linguistic…), achieving a sustainable balance between the heritage city and its people, and establishing and developing interdisciplinary and inter-institutional relationships.

The establishment of the Historic Peninsula Application and Research Center encompasses a production process ranging from data collection to implementation. To ensure the planned center achieves its objectives, the following tools must be activated and implemented as part of an action plan, which is among the center’s top priorities:

  • Establishing archives, databases, and networks 
  • Establishing a Spatial Analysis and Monitoring Laboratory (GIS)
  • Establishing the Historic Peninsula Museum
  • Developing educational programs
  • Establishing a Research and Project Office
  • Organizing seminars, congresses, conferences, and trade shows
  • Developing collaborations with civil society organizations, universities, government agencies, private companies, research centers, institutes, and other institutions
  • Fostering interdisciplinary understanding
  • Establishing coordinated relationships in the physical, social, natural, economic, cultural, artistic, technological, and engineering fields
  • Providing all types of press and publication services related to the field
