Department of Architecture

YTU Department of Architecture Architecture Program in English has started education in 2013-2014 academic year.  The language of education is 0 English and it has the same curriculum with Architecture program in Turkish. In 2009 with the application on the National Architecture Accrediting Board (MIAK) and with reference to the institutional nature of all these studies, YTU Department of Architecture  has been entitled to accreditation for 6 years with its undergraduate program following the evaluation of the Board. The studies for the NAAB Substantial Equivalency have been completed recently and the department has applied for it in June 2013. YTU Department of Architecture has been declared successful for 1.st assessment process of NAAB and it is prepared for the 2nd. assessment process.

The Architecture Program in English has a quota of 40 students and it is open Turkish citizens as well as foreign students applying from other countries. Admission requirements of the Architecture Program in English for Turkish citizens are in the guidelines prepared by "TC Assessment, Selection and Placement Center”. Admission requirements in Chapter Four of  "YTU Foreign Registration Guide" (Bachelor of Education) are valid for students applying from abroad.

17 faculty members and 6 research assistants are on duty in the Architecture Program in English. The profession of architecture is in constant change and development in today. A qualified education and foreign language skills are determining features to keep up with this development. The advantages of getting professional education in a language accepted as global to the candidates of architecture are as follows:

  • To compete in global arena combining communication skills with competence professional education,
  • To develop the skill of making relations with different cultures,

Şehir ve Bölge Planlama Bölümü

Since its foundation in 1911, Yıldız Technical University has always been a dynamic institution of higher education. Department of City and Regional Planning has been structured first as a graduate program in 1973 and re-organized in 1982 as the first full department in “planning” among other Istanbul universities. The department has its strong planning education background in both planning theory and practice through worldwide scientific knowledge.

Currently, 41 academic personnel are engaged within the department under two divisions: city planning and regional planning. As of 2018, the department has 375 undergraduate and 276 graduate students in the education system. Between 2006-2018, 639 students from the undergraduate programme and 116 students from graduate programmes have graduated.

The goal of our department is to educate prospective planner who can: create conditions for democracy and participation with love, respect and tolerance; behave like a mediator between different groups of people with communicative action; work very hard and reproduce themselves for being good practitioners or academicians who can read and interpret all dimensions of the dynamics of change within society and act upon them.

City and Regional Planning Department of YTU has a vision of being a pioneering institution in developing scientific background in planning on worldwide scales; modern, dynamic, democratic and sensitive to ethical rules. Having the principles of planning ethics, public interest and democracy, the vision of the Department will continue to sustain its main goals and objectives to protect and develop natural, cultural, economic and historical values of our cities and regions. Our vision is:

  • To develop scientific background and employ it within the ethical rules, relate in practice and dispense the knowledge at nation and worldwide scales
  • To create a participatory academic environment where different opinions could be discussed and shared,
  • To encourage researchers and support academic progress and maturity.

  • To train young planner candidates as to be sensitive to the principles of sustainable public space development principles and economic welfare.

Kültür Varlıklarını Koruma ve Onarım Bölümü

Training programs on “conservation and restoration of cultural property” in Turkey has been conducted mainly by the graduate programs on immovable cultural property entitled “Restoration” at the Faculties of Architecture and the two-year associate degree programs entitled “Architectural Restoration”, “Restoration-Conservation” at the Vocational Schools.

Undergraduate programs on conservation and restoration of cultural property in the country has been started at the Faculties of Letters, Science-Letters and Fine Arts in the recent years. The curricula of these programs are mainly on conservation and restoration of immovable cultural property.

“Department of Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Property”, which is established at the Yildiz Technical University Faculty of Architecture, is a four-year undergraduate program both on movable and immovable cultural property. 

Basic study area of the Department is as follows; documentation of movable cultural property, artwork and immovable cultural property; identification and implementation of proper conservation and restoration methods through diagnosing current and potential deteriorative factors and deterioration mechanisms threatening cultural property.

Our department is aimed to fulfill the curriculum, which is developed in line with the Department’s vision and mission, as well as to carry out scientific research and projects, to make publications, to organize scientific meetings and other activities within the framework of national and international principles and basic approaches.

Our graduates will receive a graduate degree on “Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Property”, and a title of “Conservator-Restorer”.
